“We are called at certain moments to comfort people who are enduring some trauma. Many of us don’t know how to react in such situations, but others do. In the first place, they just show up. They provide a ministry of presence. Next, they don’t compare. The sensitive person understands that each person’s ordeal is unique and should not be compared to anyone else’s. Next, they do the practical things–making lunch, dusting the room, washing the towels. Finally, they don’t try to minimize what is going on. They don’t attempt to reassure with false, saccharine sentiments. They don’t say that the pain is all for the best. They don’t search for silver linings. They do what wise souls do in the presence of tragedy and trauma. They practice a passive activism. They don’t bustle about trying to solve something that cannot be solved. The sensitive person grants the sufferer the dignity of her own process. She lets the sufferer define the meaning of what is going on. She just sits simply through the nights of pain and darkness, being practical, human, simple, and direct.”
David Brooks, The Road to Character
Mars arrived in Aquarius yesterday and today conjuncts Saturn. The effect is likely to produce a great deal of sensitivity to restrictions of any kind. Caution and patience are needed but may seem particularly uncomfortable. Today’s Cancer Moon may offer some degree of compassion but also encourages a sense of defensiveness as we approach tomorrow morning’s 1st quarter lunar phase which puts our focus on action. The overall, heightened level of confidence or determination needs to be tempered with methodical consideration that is not easy (or comfortable) to establish and pursue. This atmosphere is spontaneous and unpredictable. Our intuition may be strong. However, taking time to listen to that still, small voice may seem entirely too slow, given the sense of imperative that seems to demand decisive action.
The moon enters Cancer early this morning and sextiles Uranus this afternoon. Mars conjuncts Saturn this morning, marking the end and beginning of a two-year cycle. The last Mars-Saturn conjunction took place on April 2, 2018, in Capricorn. Look back to what was unfolding in your life at that time, what you’ve learned, and how far you’ve come.
Now, Saturn is newly in Aquarius, and we’re getting firsthand experience of this new world we are in. If there’s a sense of coming up against a wall or limitations, humble yourself rather than use brute force.
In Aquarius, this is a reminder of the power of the collective to stand strong in their ideals against what seems like an oppressive force. We’re likely to see this drama play out in our personal lives, as well as on the world’s stage.
Reach for your most idealistic vision, even if it means walking alone. You are not alone, and your courage to fearlessly walk a path is an inspiration to many. Lead by example, and you can gather your tribe as well as the support you need.
