“We may talk lightly but never carelessly. We keep at bay the flow of common, ignorant thought which runs its damaging course through the pathways of ordinary human conversation.”
Donna Goddard, The Love of Devotion
Happy Samhain! Happy Halloween!
Mercury stations retrograde today, further complicating any desire to make forward progress or to communicate clearly without causing misunderstandings that could lead to long-term conflict. We seem to suddenly develop a rather needy approach to our interactions. However, such an approach is unlikely to last beyond today so we should be very cautious with accepting increased responsibilities based upon what seems to be humble acquiescence. Nor should we be too quick to ask for help before checking out the price tag. In general, the weakness and uncertainty that we may feel today are not as bottomless as we may believe. Take extra care in written communications, as Scorpio – the sign in which Mercury Rx is currently transiting – always remembers what was said or done to us to use at some future time, if at all. People will remember how you treated them in your language, tone of voice, and actions. Take advice from author Don Miguel Ruiz:
“Be impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.”
A closer look, with a microscopic Scorpio view, brings lots of additional information to add to what you know now when you’re more willing to make an effort to use critical appraisal. You’ll glean a lot between now and mid-December when you can declare the subject closed. The last aspect before today’s void-of-course moon is conjunct lucky Jupiter. With the fortunate planet, the lunar condition, and the communication planet’s retrograde, tonight’s conversations are lively but unchallenging. People pause to think first and even do a little self-editing.
ABOUT SAMHAIN (pronounced SAA-wen): A Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the “darker half” of the year. Traditionally, it is celebrated from 31 October to 1 November, as the Celtic day began and ended at sunset. This is about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals, along with Imbolc, Beltaine, and Lughnasadh. Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Similar festivals are held at the same time of year in other Celtic lands. Both Celtic branches are roughly as old as each other.
